Happy Thanksgiving

For those of you in the States, we'd like to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving with friends and family. We're so thankful for all of you who have made this project such a success so far and we know we can keep reaching higher. We definitely could not do this without the encouragement and support from all of you. Thanks again.

Robert Turk is ready!

When we reached $18,000 we unlocked Robert Turk who will be taking us into the Black Forest of Germany to find out what has awakened under the blood-soaked earth. This promises to be another creepy addition to Once More Unto the Breach which will bring your characters face to face with the horrors from beyond the veil. We also managed to unlock another adversary for the core book.

Michele Lee is up next. Michele is a wonderful horror writer and long-time gamer who we've had the pleasure of knowing for years. She's been diving into the gaming world more frequently and has done some work for Wet Ink Games and others in the past, and we couldn't be more excited about her plans for her Mission Folio.

The soldiers are sent to Mons, a broken coal field along a swampy canal, where strange rumors of battlefield angels lie among the towering slag heaps. Glowing white visages said to be of the heavenly host, or St. George, even claimed to be Joan of Arc by the French, have been recorded by the Mons survivors and even seem to be following them as they battle on. With all the chilling accounts of corpses and monsters fighting along the war front, the soldiers reach out, with the thin hope of finding answers among the remnants of the shadowy Gaullic forests.

Wen Reischl and the Backer Goals

Wen is writer of the first of the backer goals we've unlocked, and we hope to have many others. Many of you are probably familiar with his work. Wen has worked with Post World Games, Gallant Knight Games, Yellow Piece Games, Motorcycle Unicorn Games, Green Ronin, and Ulisses North America, and is an official writer at the award winning Gnome Stew gaming blog. 

In my dreams I hear the scream of the whistles, the signal to go over the top. I feel the tension, the weight of everything riding on my shoulders as I climb the ladder up towards pain and fear and death. That’s when the haze of sleep is pierced and I realize the whistles aren’t just in my mind. Oh God, they are real. No one ever blows them in the dark night; no man’s land at night is suicide. I know my duty and I will do it; it’s all I have left. Up and over; tripping, falling, crawling towards the enemy, I’ll do anything to leave the purgatory of no man’s land. I throw myself into the far trench ready for blood, my squad dropping in beside me, then the silence engulfs us – and we are alone. In this sinister place the silence menaces us, the emptiness claws at the corners of our vision. We are alone and the nightmare has only just begun.

Another Goal Down

You all are moving us through these goals so quickly, I can barely keep up! We are so humbled by all of your support and know you all will not be disappointed by the amazing talent of our assembled crew. Kodeir Ralford is now unlocked, along with another adversary for the core book, and now we're moving on to Robert Turk at $18,000. 

Robert's games Purgatory House and the new Starship Infernum are super fun and great introductions to gaming using some interesting takes on familiar card mechanics. If you get a chance, check them out! He'll be taking players into the Black Forest to investigate an ancient horror.

Armistice Day Art

Charles sent the completed Armistice Day art you all helped unlock last week, and we're simply stunned. His deliberate use of brighter colors, and his composition are exactly what we were looking for.As we said initially, this piece will be included in the Once More Unto the Breach book with the specific adventure, but it is also available as an add-on to any and all pledge levels. If you would like a high quality art print of this piece, simply add $10 to your pledge.

Another Stretch Goal Unlocked!

As we passed $16,000 this morning, we unlocked our tenth Stretch Goal, another Mission Folio which will have the characters venturing out to search for the Red Baron and the true source of his seemingly supernatural abilities. This is going to be a great addition to the game, and will be added to Once More Unto the Breach for our Deluxe level backers and above, and will be available digitally for others. Another adversary will be added to the main book which is shaping up to have a great assortment of creatures beyond those we initially planned.

 We're now moving towards unlocking Kodeir Ralford's Mission Folio and more information on the Southern Front of the war. Kodeir is a great writer and no stranger to historical settings. He's done work for Make Believe Games and the Axiom system including the absolutely stunning Revolutionaries RPG. His mission folio will be diving into the Alpine region and will cover the horrific depths soldiers will be willing to go to survive the bitter cold and the roles they'll play in the White Friday events. 

"When the avalanches on Mount Marmolada subsided, many of us were left strangled by the cold and the ice. I was delirious... snow blind and mad. Alone. Ineffably abandoned. When I'd finally heard clawing beneath the endless snow I became desperate, I didn't care whether they were Italian or Austrian, and I shoveled through with my helmet praying past my fears. But what I freed from the frost was not a life that one should save. No, not a life at all. Their eyes were tunneled through with a blackness, their tongues pouring out their skulls like snakes seeking for death. I ran. My voice ruptured in my chest incapable to scream, and I was lost, lost for days listening to the howls, the gunshots, and the cries for help for which my God would not answer. My body was freezing, I was dying, and when the night terrors began to speak... I finally prayed to the voice that would listen."

This is going to be a good one that I don't want to miss out on. We're also a few backers away from our first Backer Stretch Goal by Wen Reichl too. Hopefully this week will keep this momentum going.

What is a Deluxe Tier?

We've had a few questions regarding what counts as a Deluxe tier as referenced in the Stretch Goal list. The $45 tier and the $65 tier are both listed as Deluxe, but we want to make sure those that have also pledged for the Soldier's Journal Collector's Edition know they will still get all of the physical and digital goals of the Deluxe tiers.

Alan Bahr, that is!

Look, I'm not a huge fan of puns, and I bet Alan has heard this a million times before, but seriously, I couldn't resist. Alan Bahr of Gallant Knight Games is a great friend, writer, designer and springboard for ideas. He doesn't normally have the time or availability to do a lot of freelance writing, so we're extremely happy he is able to write a Mission Folio for Never Going Home.

The Red Baron has been spreading panic and havoc among the air corp of the Great Powers. Rumors abound of his preternaturally talents while flying. The players are assigned a dangerous mission behind enemy lines: Discover the Red Baron's secret and end his dominance of the skies.

As we hit $15,000 this morning, we unlocked Melanie Meador's Mission Folio covering the rescuing of war orphans from what can only be a terrible fate at the hands of some terrible and manipulative people. We also managed to unlock Once More Unto the Breach, which is a physical book added to all Deluxe pledge levels. This book will combine ALL of the unlocked Mission Folios into one book so you can have them all at your fingertips.
